30 picks in 30 days to raise funds for the Clean Our Patch School Ambassador Programme

Since 2018 Clean Our Patch has cleared almost 100,000 bags of detritus and numerous tonnes of waste, but we need you to help us make the change a permanent one. So far we have established 43 litter picking groups in the southwest and also some international groups too with the aim of cleaning up our environment. New groups are provided with equipment, litter pickers, bag hoops, high vis and first-aid kits to get them started.

We want to do exactly the same with schools, with an educational twist. When a school joins our School Ambassador Programme we will come to the provision and host workshops with each class group. Our workshops are tailored to each class group and although hold a serious message they are delivered with with and humour in order to engage pupils in open a productive discussion around the blight of litter on our planet.

Clean Our Patch will supply everything to enable the schools to host their own litter picks and loan kit to families/ pupils during holidays and weekends (10 adult pickers, 10 child pickers, 10 bag hoops, a litter picking manual, a storage bag and box, posters and a personalised framed certificate). We will also come and host 2 litter picks with each school annually. This programme is open to all schools including SEN schools. We believe that opportunities should be offered to every person as each and every person has value and worth as well as the capacity to help the environment. So far, we have recruited 54 schools onto our School Ambassador Programme and aim to include every school in Plymouth.

We litter pick most days across the city, from pavements, hedges, drains and embankments, in parks, woodlands, waterways and along our beautiful coast. We pick these spaces to educate our communities about the damage that single-use plastics and other disposable materials cause to our environment and our communities. We have continued to grow and thrive with the encouragement of individuals and support groups who go out solo litter picking in their own time.
