Clean, Classroom Air Amid a Pandemic
Donation protected
My husband and I are teachers: I'm an urban high school English teacher, and he's a first grade teacher.
For the past ten years, I've worked with students who are overcoming substance use disorder. These are some of the most dedicated young people who have fought against obstacles that might deter other students from crossing the finish line to their graduations. This year, in part because of the Covid-19 Coronavirus pandemic, I'm working at another Boston Public Schools alternative education high school setting. My students this year are also overcoming obstacles like caring for a young child of their own, or caring for their siblings so their parents can work. They may also be living on their own and supporting themselves. Despite these obstacles that make their diploma track challenging, these young people are fighting the odds, seeking out our program , and pursuing their education.
Rob works with wonderful, energetic, fun-loving, curious first graders, and he loves every minute of it! His students are delighted with his humor and his special ability to make learning FUN! While teaching his young charges to read, he's still known to interject dance party breaks, and take advantage of moments like using a frightened student's sighting of a spider in the classroom and turn it into a learning opportunity when said spider starts writing the kids letters every night and telling them about his family, and of course, requesting letters be written back.
This year, things are a little concerning. Our Boston buildings are terribly old. Many don't have proper HVAC's in place to make sure the air is filtered properly to lessen the chance of spreading this virus. State guidance doesn't require Rob's first graders to wear masks, and he is also in a building where the HVAC needs new filters installed.
Would you be able to assist us this year in ensuring our air is as clean as possible?
I plan to purchase two large Molekule air purifying devices for each of our classrooms, which use PECO technology to catch and eradicate airborne virus particles.
"Active systems like Molekule’s PECO technology meet FDA criteria for reducing viruses in the air. In laboratory testing, 99.9994% of the viruses that landed on our filters were sterilized."
Please, help me keep our students safe this year. I'm hoping to raise these funds October 1st. Any amount will go a long way towards our goal of purchasing one of these devices for each of our classrooms.
Thank you!
