Clay's fight for life from hit and run

Donation protected
I never thought that I would be the one to ever have to create a GoFundMe, but here I am; life can change in just a second.  I write this with deep sadness and grief, not only for my stepdad, Clay, but also for my mom, Alane, who has constantly had to fight through life from cancer, multiple health issues from chronic illnesses, and constant financial stress from bills and job losses, and also for Clay's 16 year old daughter, Abigail.

Clay is a U.S. Navy veteran including tours in the Middle East immediately after 9/11, so seeing him in such a vulnerable state is truly heart shattering and something we never imagined.

On Saturday, November 14, 2020, Clay was riding his bicycle when he was hit by a car. My mom got a call from Clay's phone and it was the paramedics. They said that Clay was hit by a car while on his bike and they were taking him straight to the Medical Center downtown.  Witnesses said the woman who hit him got out of her vehicle, looked at Clay's bloody and barely conscious body, got back in her car, and drove away. Thankfully, a witness chased her and got her license plate number for police, and she has since been found and charged.

Clay was immediately taken downtown to the Houston Medical Center and has been in ICU since. He has countless broken bones, gashes, scrapes, and bruises all over, a punctured lung and severe brain bleeding and swelling. They have him hooked up to all kinds of things, including putting a wire in his brain to monitor swelling, a chest tube, and they have just found that he is bleeding internally and is going into surgery as I write this. He is not speaking or moving, but he is squeezing my mom's hands and trying to open his eyes to look at her. She is the only person who can calm him down at times that he is panicking, so we know that he knows who she is. He is truly fighting for his life and it is currently unknown what lies ahead in the future.

I have created this page to help relieve the financial stresses for my mom. Clay has been out of a job since the start of Covid (he was in the oil industry). My mom works at Texas Children's Urgent Care in Pearland. She is unable to go to work while trying to be by Clay's side during this horrific time. Thus, no more paychecks will be coming in.

I ask you to donate if you can -- truly anything will help at this point. If you are unable to donate, I ask that you get down on your hands and knees and pray for miraculous healing for Clay, and for strength and peace for my mom and the rest of the family.

Clay was almost home when this happened. Hug your family tight because things can change in an instant.
