My high school friend, Jenny Askland Clay, and her husband and dog are currently homeless after a pipe burst and flooded their home in Belton, Texas due to the severe winter weather affecting the state.
The family’s immediate need is to pay for a place to stay, along with food, clothing, and medications for the length of time it takes for their home to be repaired. They also have a large insurance deductible and don't know when/if anything will be reimbursed to repair their home.
Jenny, Ron, and Taco the dog would be grateful for any support given to them to get through this difficult time.
Here’s Jenny’s description of their situation:
“On Tuesday, February 17th, our pipe burst in our attic/ceiling and sprayed water continuously for at least 16 hours before the police were finally able to turn it off. The damage is extensive. Due to damage throughout the community, everyone who is available to repair and assist is full. We are on a long list to even have someone come to our house to start trying to remove water (not to fix the house, just to help mitigate costs).
We made an insurance claim, but the adjuster will not be out for weeks or longer. We are staying in a very temporary situation, just a few days, with our dog. Hotel rooms are full, but hopefully as people's electricity gets turned on they will open up.
We cannot go into our house until the electricity is turned off. I only have a t-shirt and sweatpants that I was able to grab as we were fleeing the house. It's going to be hard to teach next week without clothes. Most stores are closed and if they are open they don't have anything on the shelves. Hopefully, as the weather warms up that will change over the next week or so. We are trying to find a more permanent housing solution (again it's chaos everywhere so that might take a little bit of work).”
