In the morning on Wednesday, November 29th, Claudia drove herself home from work, not feeling well. Initially her family thought she may be having an anxiety attack, however, things quickly escalated and Claudia began to show stroke-like symptoms. 911 was called immediately and she was transported to Marian Medical Center in Santa Maria. Doctors very quickly confirmed she did indeed have a stroke that morning. While waiting for test results to come back, Claudia had another stroke followed by a seizure. Later that evening, the doctors came in with the very surprising news that the strokes were caused by a brain tumor, and that it needed to come out immediately. They very quickly spoke to UC San Francisco, preparing for transfer there for brain surgery to remove the tumor. In the early morning hours of Thursday, November 30th, Claudia was transferred to UCSF via ambulance, while husband Randy and son Wyatt followed. Upon arriving there, the neuro-surgical team began running further tests and making a surgical plan. They moved very quickly. Surgery was scheduled for Friday, December 1st. After a morning of prep for Claudia, she was taken into surgery at 1pm. Surgery lasted 5 hours. It will be two weeks before testing on the tumor is finished and a continued treatment plan for Claudia is made. By the grace of God, Claudia has made her way home just days after brain surgery to recover peacefully.
Much of her future is unknown at this point. Therapies are needed and returning to work is not a reality any time in the near future.
At this point, Claudia’s income has abruptly came to a halt. She will file for disability as soon as she (her family) can, but it will not begin for some time. Medical bills, transport to San Francisco, further treatment, and therapies are all unknown expenses and insurance coverage on these are unanswered as well.
Claudia is a much loved wife, daughter, mom, grandma, sister, and friend to many. Please help us shower her with love and take one burden off of her shoulders as she recovers from major brain surgery and an unknown future at this point.
Thank you all!
