Classroom of Compassion, a volunteer-led Los Angeles-based community organization, is raising funds to travel to Bend, Oregon, and create four public altars honoring the victims of the tragic shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School on October 15, 2026.
Three children and a teacher were killed. As of October 16, the victims identified (and will be updated as more information becomes public) include:
Rhoam Summer
Rhoam was 5 years old, a student at Silver Rail Elementary School and the youngest of the four lives lost. His aunt remembers him as a very happy little boy, a ball of energy from the day he was born, an incredibly fast runner and a fearless climber. He loved to read, and he believed every stuffed animal needed to be rescued and cared for, especially his sharks, dinosaurs, and other creatures he considered misunderstood. He wanted all of his stuffed sea creatures to be rainbow, his favorite color.
GoFundMe directly to the family:
Megan Lambert
Megan, 25, grew up in Bend and was a teacher at Silver Rail Elementary School, where she started as a substitute before becoming full-time. Her family called it her dream job. She also coached girls at the Central Oregon Volleyball Club, where she turned down her pay in her first season so players whose families couldn’t afford it could take part. Her family remembers her as funny and outspoken, someone who brightened any room, and says she always stood up for the underdog and for children with special needs.
Two other children, ages 8 and 11, were also killed. Their families have asked that their names not be shared, and we honor that.
We are seeking to raise $2,000 to help cover the cost of materials, supplies, transportation, and travel related to building these memorial spaces. This fundraiser will close once we reach our goal.
Your support will directly contribute to creating spaces for remembrance, healing, unity, and community care in Bend during this incredibly painful time.
Please note: This is not a fundraiser for the victims’ families.
If you would like to support Rhoam Summer’s family, please donate to Coming Together for the Summer Family .
Classroom of Compassion has previously created memorial and healing spaces in communities impacted by tragedy, including Uvalde, TX; Highland Park, IL; Colorado Springs, CO; Monterey Park, CA; Las Vegas, NV; Winder, GA; and San Diego, CA.
Your support will help us honor the victims and provide a meaningful place for the community to gather, grieve, and heal together.
I’m the co-founder of Classroom of Compassion and will be managing the funds to allocate them to this project.
Thank you for your generosity, compassion, and support.
