Classics at City Cinema

Hi,
For the past five years (with a short break), I have been presenting Classics at City Cinema here in Charlottetown. This series of movie classics, across genres, borders and eras, has included films such as, Breathless (1960), The Maltese Falcon (1941), Rashomon (1950), Amélie (2001), Halloween (1978), Sherlock Holmes (the 1916 silent version that we presented with live musician accompaniment), and neo-classics such as Mandy (2018) and The Babadook (2014).
Classics at City Cinema has been a true passion project, borne of my love of sharing key works of world cinema with Islanders. It’s a rare opportunity to engage with movie touchstones on the big screen, to be entertained, enlightened, moved, and to broaden our knowledge and experience of cinema.
Classics at City Cinema is an initiative independent of City Cinema. In order to bring these movies to you, I negotiate with cinema management and with film distributors. Both have to be paid, and in some cases, distributor fees are extremely high or require a costly yearly membership. Since beginning this series, all fees have come directly from my pocket.
In order to continue making Classics at City Cinema available to Charlottetown moviegoers, I am appealing to public support here at gofundme. All funds raised will go directly towards the presentation of movie classics at City Cinema in the form of rental payments and distributor fees.
Please help support the public presentation of essential works of cinema here in Prince Edward Island. This opportunity is quite rare for a city the size of ours, and truly benefits the film culture of our island.
Thank you.
