What is Classical Vauxhall?
Classical Vauxhall is a chance to enjoy London’s finest classical music in Vauxhall, whose rich cultural history is rooted in the iconic Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens. Notable composers and musicians debuted new works in the Pleasure Gardens including a 1749 rehearsal of Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks, which attracted an audience of 12,000.
This series is inspired by the visionary Jonathan Tyers, who opened the Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens to make entertainment accessible to everyone with heavily subsidised tickets, courtesy of Vauxhall One, as an opportunity to see world-class artists at an affordable price.
Classical Vauxhall also incorporates an education programme, working with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, World Heart Beat Music Academy and local Lambeth primary schools to introduce classical music to local children as a way to develop and nurture soft skills in a fun and engaging way.
Funded by Vauxhall One and run by Artistic Director Fiachra Garvey, this year we have expanded the festival to include 5 distinct performances, each with its own theme, spread over 4 days in St Mark’s Church from 10th - 13 February 2022.
Why donate?
The event is organised by local Business Improvement District and not-for-profit organisation, Vauxhall One, and is currently supported by Lambeth Council funding. There is no guarantee that this funding will continue for future Classical Vauxhall projects and we want to be able to continue keeping the arts as accessible as possible to everyone in our community, while also providing opportunities for our children to appreciate the art of classical history and live performance.
So, if you enjoyed the performance or believe in keeping classical music alive, we are asking you to consider a donation to bring more classical concerts to Vauxhall, keeping the arts and culture alive in the community and introducing the joy of classical music to children and schools, with the hopes of igniting a creative spark in future musicians and artists.
