Support Classic Lines, books & more

“Classic Lines, Books and More” – This is our bookstore, our slogan, and our mission. In 2014 I opened Classic Lines to fill a need in Squirrel Hill, a local bookstore where books could be purchased, ideas exchanged, a place to sit and visit with neighbors. For six years it has been working.

We’ve been honored for this endeavor: Classic Lines was awarded the Squirrel Hill Treasure award and became a finalist in Publisher’s Weekly Bookstore of the Year. But the biggest reward is the heartfelt response from our customers who always find “the book they didn’t know they wanted.”

Working with our partners, Pittsburgh Arts & Lectures, City Theatre, Pittsburgh Opera, Jewish Book Council authors at Congregation Beth Shalom,  PICT, and more. Classic Lines reached out to the greater Pittsburgh community. We have helped bring the world's best authors to Pittsburgh while supporting the cultural community and giving back a portion of our profits to those non-profits.

Now the Classic Lines storefront at 5825 Forbes is closed to the public and faces a perilous situation due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We would like to be doing what we know we do best:  getting the books you want into your hands and bringing our books to you at cultural events.   We want to be sitting in our Adirondack chairs in the sunshine and visiting with our neighbors as they stroll on Forbes Ave.

We cannot do this without your help. We need to pay rent and utilities, our staff and our publishers.   We need to make sure there will be cash on hand to do this as well as restock our shelves with the books that you need and want.  The success of this fund raising campaign will make the difference between re-opening for business and having a going out of business sale.

I am asking for your immediate support. I have used all of my emergency savings to keep the store going. I am not in a position to borrow funds.   It does not make financial sense for my business to take out any loans without any indication it will reopen in a time frame suitable to generate meaningful income to repay them.  Even when Classic Lines is able to reopen it is very unclear what book sales will be and how quickly we can ramp up operations and sales to the level we need.

You will be rewarded for your support by earning points in our loyalty program. Every dollar donated will earn one point.  You’ll receive a $25.00 gift card every time you reach 250 points.

Now we need you to do 3 things

—  Donate generously

—  Share our campaign on social media and with everyone you know

—  Buy more books

Thank you for your support, past, present and future.
