Hey Friends and Family,
I am hoping to raise $940.25 dollars to buy annotated critical editions of Twain‘s Huckleberry Finn and Percival Everett‘s recent pulitzer prize winner James. James is an adaptation of Twain‘s classic from the perspective of the slave character known simply as Jim. Where the original failed to give interiority to Jim, James fills in the roaring silences. I hope to help students see the blind spots of canonized American authors but also the hidden humanity in their writing. Copies of James are 17 dollars each and the Norton critical copy of Huckleberry Finn is 19 - even donating enough for one copy would be amazing! I hope having new, beautiful, copies of books will help build the students’ relationship to reading. Anything will help! Be ready to recieve the updates of progress in their studies!
With Love,
Leo
