1. Who am I? I am a teacher in Charleston, SC transferring from a public to a private school.
2. Where you're from: Charleston, South Carolina
3. Your relationship to the parties you're raising funds for: I will be using funds to buy Apple iPads to be used by students in my class.
4. How the funds will be spent (be specific as possible):I've already been funded for 6 iPads and cases in my room. I need an additional 6 to create a 1:1 environment in my classroom.
5. How you intend to get the funds to those in need: Funds will be spent with guidance from an Apple consultant to get the best set up and price.
For the past six years I taught 4th grade in an Apple iPad 1:1 setting. Over time, this 1:1 enviroment morphed into an Apple ecosystem by including a provided MacBook and Apple TV for my classroom.
During these years, I learned how to shape lessons and our class atmosphere to yeild the most personalized and powerful education possible for each student in my classroom.
On a daily basis, students were assigned work based on their individual needs and capabilities. Students worked individually, in peer groups, and in small groups with the teacher during the school day. Students create rather than regurgitate information.
This year, I am transitioning to a classroom that does not have devices, nor does it have any part of an Apple ecosystem. My family invested over $1,500 in beginning the transformation to an Apple ecosystem by purchasing a MacBook. Then, two generous donors allowed me to meet my first goal by giving me 6 iPads & 6 cases to begin the 2017-2018 school year.
Going forward, I hope to raise money to purchase an additional 10 Apple iPads for my classroom. This will allow students to work on the devices in stations, partners, and individually. Additionally, the GoFundMe money will go to the purchase of protective cases. I've seen many accidents happen in classrooms, and I really want to protect the investment of these iPads. This total does NOT include buying iPads with Apple Care, so the cases are essential.
GoFundMe would purchase:
- 10 iPads @ $309 (Education Pricing ) + Charleston Taxes = $3,538 + 283.04 (GoFUNDme cost) =3,821.04
