Clarkston Apartment Fire Relief Fund
Donation protected
10 families have been displaced by an apartment fire in the Willow Branch complex in Clarkston. Fortunately, no lives were lost, however, a large group of refugee families already struggling to survive during coronavirus has lost their home. A wide network of community friends is collaborating to raise funds, collect donations, provide food and healthcare for these families. I was tapped to lead the effort.
We are working with the apartment complex management office to provide direct assistance to the families. This is a community collaborative effort and not connected to any specific agency, organization, or group, thus everything will go directly to those who lost everything. One of our community partners, an incredible community leader and one of my close friends and his family lost everything in the fire. There are many ways you can help. Money, is of course, the most effective support we can offer now but we so do gift cards, furniture, clothes, and virtually anything you have yourself in your home. We will have the ages and genders of those affected as well as the ability to connect you with a family if you would like to "adopt" a specific family to support.
I also know that a number of those affected had already been unemployed since the beginning of coronavirus. The apartment complex also does not have enough vacant apartments to accommodate all of the families.
There is a lot to do! But this is a strong, resilient community and we are pooling our strengths to support the most vulnerable among us. Please be in touch with me if you have questions, comments, suggestions, or want to help.
THANK YOU!
