Let me introduce you to my good friends Heidi and Clarke Glover. They are a wonderful couple who reside in Canmore, Alberta. They love being active outdoors—hiking, climbing, skiing, soccer, and hockey are things they enjoy. However, over 3 years ago for Heidi, and 8 years ago for Clarke, they both suffered concussions that have led to ongoing severe post-concussion syndrome.
Because of their injury, they have lost much of their ability to do these things they enjoy. But it’s not just a loss of recreation. It has severely limited their ability to exist and flourish in a noisy, over-stimulated world. With this injury they have difficulty reading, writing, and driving. They have extreme noise and light sensitivity. And because of these things, they cannot do their jobs. Clarke is only working part time because of his injury and Heidi, although she has tried, has not been able to return to work since her initial concussion in December 2018. That means that everyday life tasks rely on a network of community members to accomplish—getting drivers to appointments, getting friends to help fill out medical forms, or organizing grocery deliveries.
Throughout this difficult journey Heidi and Clarke have sought out many avenues of rehab, many that have led to setbacks, but they are beginning to find specialized doctors who have been able to help them make some recovery progress. The problem is they are almost exclusively NOT covered by healthcare. With Clarke working part-time and no longer qualifying for benefits and Heidi on long-term disability, there just aren’t enough funds left to afford the rehab they need.
The bottom line is, they are unable to keep doing the necessary rehab for recovery without our help. Let’s give generously so that they can continue on their road to recovery and let’s share this page as a means of growing the team. I know they are so grateful and blessed by the community of support around them and would like to extend it to each of you!
*Just a note that Heidi and Clarke have a very limited capacity to respond to messages. We’ll update the page every few months so you can know how the journey is going!
