Clark the Super Cat’s Emergency Surgery
Spende geschützt
On Monday, July 21, I came home to find a distressed cat outside my Brooklyn apartment building. He wasn’t neutered or microchipped, and my attempt to locate his owners was futile. With the incredible support and guidance of Brooklyn Animal Action, I began fostering the little guy and named him Clark, after Clark Kent. I was able to get him neutered and vaccinated at the ASPCA on Friday, July 25, and he was recovering wonderfully after his surgery.
However, on Monday, July 28, I discovered a bump on Clark’s throat, which I presumed to be an abscess, and immediately made an appointment at the vet for the next day. During the night, my worst nightmare came true, and his abscess burst. I took him to All Ears Veterinary in Brooklyn, and the prognosis wasn’t good. After cleaning the wound, they realized he had a giant hole in his throat that was heavily infected, and he needed to be rushed to the emergency vet immediately. This was extremely overwhelming for both me and Clark, as I attempted to navigate new information regarding his care. My priority was getting him the help he needed, whatever the cost.
When we arrived at VERG Brooklyn, his wound was gushing pus, and they had to work hard to stabilize him. They told me they needed to keep him overnight with an antibiotic drip and pain medication, and scheduled him for surgery the next day. The vets were shocked that, not only was he ALIVE, but he was eating and drinking, despite having a massive hole in his throat. Once they took Clark in for surgery, they realized the extent of the damage and how big the hole truly was. Thankfully, they closed the hole, and he is going to make a FULL recovery. He just needs time to heal and fight the infection.
Clark is truly a Super Cat. He is friendly, loving, affectionate, playful, and most of all, STRONG. He is a FIGHTER. He wants to live. I will do everything in my power to ensure he gets to live out his life in peace, but I need help to do that. His vet bills are very expensive, and since he is a rescue, this financial burden was unexpected and certainly not planned. Any amount will help, no matter how big or small. I am grateful to everyone who has helped get us this far!
