STEM racing in Chicago with Police and community
Who?
The Cobra Back Foundation is an organization that our Chicago Englewood - Community Policing Sergeant, Sergeant Dixon, started. Sergeant Dixon has been working very closely with the community since he arrived at the Englewood Police station three years ago and is known and loved by most! He started the Cobra Back Foundation as a bridge to develop new and strengthen existing Police and community relations. Under his foundation, Sergeant Dixon started a bi-weekly radio-controlled car STEM program called INNER-CITY RCP. It means INNER-CITY Radio-Controlled with Police. Through the facilitation of the Cobra Back Foundation, the Police and the children in the Chicago Englewood community engage in Radio-Controlled freestyle racing every 2nd & 4th Saturday. Welcoming to everyone, but not asking for or excepting a dime from the participants. INNER-CITY RCP has become a recreation for the Police and the community to look forward to on a bi-weekly basis. So far, INNER-CITY RCP has brought a form of entertainment and competition to children in the Chicago Englewood Community, who ordinarily wouldn't have these opportunities in neighborhoods like this.
Why?
I want to help the Cobra Back Foundation start their 8-week STEM course, which will run three times a year. To take their program to a more competitive level, they will need a facility, higher-end model-grade vehicles, a trailer for storage & transporting, track equipment, and other electronics to utilize and support reusable energy. They eventually want to spread this program on a competitive level to all other communities in Chicago and surrounding suburbs.
