Clare Orton Scholarship Fund
Donation protected
Clare Orton was a 2014 graduate of Las Lomas High school and ran on the varsity cross-country team all four years she attended. She lost her life at the age of 19, in July, 2015.
Clare had completed her Freshman year in the Honors program at San Diego State University where she was studying Engineering, and she made the Dean’s List both semesters. She was a driven, smart young woman whose determination to make this world a better, greener, place was contagious. Clare lived her life with a positive, quiet, intensity, and a depth of compassion that is rarely seen. She had a great sense of adventure and thirsted to go on backpacking trips and to travel worldwide. She planned to design sustainable buildings and textiles and had already drawn plans for several tiny houses. She wanted nothing more than to help the environment and to leave as small a footprint as possible.
In her memory, a scholarship is being established to be awarded yearly to a Las Lomas graduating Senior. The intent is to support others who share her passion for the planet. Details of the scholarship can be found in the Career Counseling Center.
