Clara May is a beautiful one-year-old who has been through many struggles in the past year. Like anyone else, she has her good days and bad, but she sure is a fighter!
Clara has not been able to drink from a bottle or a cup without choking, since she was born. After many hospital and doctor visits they were finally referred to the Children's Hospital. On March 18, 2015, Clara was admitted to the Children's Hospital in Colorado to begin testing to see what was going on.
This is where they discovered Clara has a rare disorder called a type 3 laryngeal cleft. This means that she has tissue missing between her larynx and her esophagus. So when she swallows food and liquids, they are able to pass into her airway through the hole caused by the missing tissue. She underwent surgery for G-tube placement on March 25th. This feeding tube will have to stay in until she has the surgery to fix her laryngeal cleft.
After another test it was confirmed that she has another rare disorder called a right aortic arch. This means her aortic arch has developed on the opposite side of everyone else's. This has caused a vascular ring around her trachea, which might be leading to some of her breathing issues. This disorder will also require surgery to fix.
Clara and her parents have been strong through the testing and surgeries that have occurred so far, but they have a long road ahead of them.
I have created this account to help with the many expenses for all of the traveling, care, testing and surgeries Clara has and will have to endure! Every little bit counts and every donation, big or small, is greatly appreciated. Through this time they are also in need of your prayers! Thank You!
