Clair graduated from Duke University in May 2020 with her Nursing degree and began her career at UVA Hospital. A few months later she was finally going to get to marry her middle school sweetheart. A few days before her wedding, she went to the ER for leg pain that turned into something that is hard to imagine. This is her story:
"Just 10 days before our wedding, I went to the ED thinking that I pulled or tore a quad muscle. Then 2 hours later I am being told that I need a bone biopsy because the Ultrasound, X-ray and MRI are very concerning. A large mass was found on my bone and muscle. I am currently on crutches because they are worried that my femur will break. ......
My orthopedic oncologist gave us the news that my biopsy has to be sent to a “world expert” for further investigation for a definitive diagnosis. They are leaning towards a cancer called an Osteosarcoma. At the minimum, I will need a replacement of my femur & a total hip replacement due to the location & size of the tumor. Chemotherapy may be necessary as well, depending on the final biopsy result. Recovery is expected to take awhile, so I will be out of work indefinitely (6+ months). I want to thank everyone who has supported me, my new husband , and my family through this time. We are continuing to stay positive during this entire process & lean on each other and the Lord!"
Clair is one of the most giving people you will meet. She decided to get her nursing degree after obtaining another bachelors degree just so that she could help others. As positive as she is, she needs help as she is not able to work at this time as a nurse.
