My name is Claire McAteer. This past year I have gained an incredible amount of knowledge regarding healthcare through my freshman year at University of Massachusetts Boston School of Nursing as well as my continuing internship at the Magical Moon Foundation. My motivation to become a nurse comes from my desire to bring as much care and comfort to those suffering through painful experiences as possible and to hopefully make a difference in as many people's lives as I can. I want everyone to feel the same love, peace of mind and body, and kindness that they deserve as living beings. I love to learn as much as I can about healthcare, patient care, and better ways to approach it and am always looking for new opportunities to do so.
This winter, I will be traveling to Pula, Croatia for two weeks to shadow nurses and nurse midwives in the city's major hospitals through a program called Gap Medics. Gap Medics is a program designed to provide aspiring healthcare workers with experience in the healthcare system by giving them the opportunity to shadow professionals in a variety of different countries. This gives students the ability to learn about healthcare from various perspectives and cultures.
I am incredibly excited to have the opportunity to go on this trip and to learn from the experienced medical professionals in Pula.
In order to make this trip possible (from the program price, to travel expenses, to registration fees) I will need a total of $3,600. I will be working a summer job as a Home Health Aid in hopes of raising a portion of this sum. However, any assistance in reaching this goal is greatly appreciated. I can not thank any of you enough for supporting me in my dream of serving our community as a future RN. Thank you for your consideration!
