Claire's football tournament in Spain

Hi, my name is Claire. I am 12 years old and football is my life! Playing football fixes all my problems and fills me with a sense of freedom. I started playing when I was 6 in my big sister's team for Roselea FC and I have loved it ever since. Now I train three days a week and play on Sundays with my representative team, NWS Spirit Under13s.

2024 has been a great year of football for me - I was chosen for the Football NSW Talent Support Program, my team were semi-finalists at the Sydney FC Cup and now I have been chosen by a scouting team to play in the Under 14s Sydney All Stars team at the East Mallorca Girls Cup , in Spain this October. The other girls in the team are so amazing and playing alongside them will be an unforgettable experience. As one of the biggest girls tournaments in the world, it attracts high profile European clubs, including youth teams from Real Madrid, Manchester City and Glasgow Rangers. Being a part of this competition would give me confidence and experience that would bring me one massive step closer to my dream...to be a Matilda.

I am so excited about this opportunity and also a little nervous as I have never been overseas before, or away from my family for so long - 10 whole days! The team will participate in an intensive training camp in Barcelona before heading to Mallorca for the 4 day tournament. It is a fabulous opportunity to learn about European football and to test my skills against some great players. I know I will learn a lot and will grow as a footballer.
