Dr. Claire Montaigne died Sept 21 from metastatic melanoma. She was initially diagnosed 6 weeks after giving birth and days after graduating from her OHSU Family Medicine residency.

Claire gave so much to our department. She was a chief resident, a true full-scope family clinician, and a beloved colleague.

When Claire was ill, many asked, "What can I do?" There wasn't always a great answer to this question.

Her husband Matt continues to raise their 2-year-old daughter Charlotte in their Portland home per Claire's wishes. There are substantial expenses that need to be managed, and this is our time to step up.

Let us show Matt and Charlotte what it means to be part of our OHSU family. Let us ease the stress of funeral costs, the medical bills, the daycare needs. Let us wrap Matt and Charlotte in the warmth of our arms and the generosity of our spirits in their time of need.

And let us set a light at the table this holiday season to remember the gifted clinician and beautiful spirit that was Claire Montaigne.
