Claire Johnson Rand Needs Our Help!

On behalf of Elizabeth Mebus Greenwood, Molly Westbrook Hill, Mary Jo Livengood Shankle, and myself:

Our friend, Claire (pictured on the right in younger, healthier days!), is facing serious health issues once again and needs our assistance. As many of you know, Claire had a fall a few years ago while pet sitting and broke her left hip. This was just a year after recovering from a broken right hip. Following the second hip surgery, an infection settled in the hardware, and she required an additional procedure to remove the infection. Unfortunately, the infection was not completely resolved, and she recently had to undergo a fourth surgery to remove the hardware entirely.

Claire has been and continues to be unable to work because she cannot bear weight on her left leg and must self-administer intravenous antibiotics every eight hours. In three months, if she is infection-free, she will undergo a total hip replacement and rehabilitation, which she hopes will put her on the road to recovery.

In the meantime, Claire is facing insurmountable financial struggles. This is due primarily to her health issues, but the COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated her financial troubles. Claire was just getting her dog walking and pet sitting business back in gear after her hospitalizations and recovery in 2020. The shutdown stemming from the pandemic caused her services not to be needed by her clients because they were working from home and no longer traveling.

Claire is kind, generous and totally devoted to her friends and animal companions. Let’s help her make this difficult time more manageable so that she doesn’t have to worry about how she will pay her bills. This fundraiser is to help Claire with lost income and the extra expenses she'll face during her recovery.

Needless to say, she's apprehensive about her recovery and your contribution of any amount will help provide some comfort that she can get through this and get back on her feet.
