Claffey's Legacy: Soccer Uniting Our Community
Donation protected
This event was created in memorial to honor our Coach, Steve Claffey, who passed away at 45 from colon cancer in 2013. We’ve self-sponsored this event in our rural community since December 2015, raising more than $15,000 since its inception. All proceeds have been donated to families in need throughout the community. Our beneficiaries have included families that lost children unexpectedly, a former Suwannee soccer player who was injured in an automobile accident, and a former player whose daughter was born with Campomelic Dysplasia, a rare type of dwarfism and former player's parent diagnosed with cancer. Our goal is to support the community that supported us by providing camaraderie, competition, and unity through the beautiful sport of soccer.
From this year forward, $750 raised at the gate and through the gofundme page will be allocated towards our new Resiliency Scholarship that was created to support students facing adversity and navigating obstacles while pursuing their educational dreams. Academic perfection is not the only characteristic of a successful college student. Overcoming your failures and continuing to succeed is the "true" definition of learning.
