Support Rachel’s Recovery

Hi all!

My name is Rachel Kobza, I’m a 28 year old 4th grade teacher in Denver, Colorado.

Unfortunately on Sunday, January 26th I was in a ski accident. I was taken by ambulance from the mountains back to Denver. I broke my tibia and fibula which required surgery. On Monday, I had 4 screws and a titanium rod put in my shin. After that, I spent two more days in the hospital managing pain and learning how to get around with a walker.

Even though I have felt incredibly sad and scared throughout this situation, I also have a deep sense of gratitude. Everything and everyone that had to come together to get me safely off the mountain and taken care of is astonishing. Loveland ski patrol, paramedics, St. Anthony’s hospital staff, friends, family, and coworkers- I will never have the words to express how grateful I am for all of your help through this!

I am happy to be home now and so thankful this accident wasn’t worse, but it’s going to be a long road as I learn how to walk again and navigate this new normal. First, I am mainly concerned with covering my immediate monthly bills as I’ll have to take 1 week unpaid off from teaching and at least 3 weeks unpaid from my second job. After that, any money raised will be put towards ambulance, hospital, and physical therapy costs.

If you are able to contribute at all, or even just share this post, I would be forever grateful. Thank you for considering!

With love,

Rachel
