Community Radio Summer Fundraiser - CKVS

This year due to the Covid-19 Pandemic we could not hold our annual fundraiser. Donations make up a huge percentage of our budget: about a third. We literally couldn’t run the station without the generous support we receive from our listeners. We are having a summer fundraiser to keep the music and Community Radio alive in the Shuswap. We are located in Salmon Arm, BC Canada. Donate today!
So where does everyone’s money go?
We are incredibly frugal and watch our pennies but someone has to run the station.
The two staff need to be paid, these amazing people work more than one job and put in more than three times the hours they are paid for.
Then it’s everyday costs associated with running a radio station: we pay rent to the for our studio space in at First Community this is $500 per month ( a great deal in our eyes) this adds up to $6000 dollars per year, our Tower rental is $6300 per year. This keeps our signal going out to your wherever you are in the area. If we need someone to climb the tower to do maintenance this is a specialty hire and costs $$$. We must pay licensing and professional fees to organizations like the SOCAN (The Society of Composers, Authors and Music Publishers of Canada) and NCRA (the National Community Radio Association), we need to pay the phone bill and internet bills. Then there are things like insurance, bookkeeping and accounting, software fees, volunteer and training opportunities, and we are always repairing and maintaining our studio equipment.
But they’re costs we have to pay and that’s why we reach out and ask our listeners for their support: offering a voice to communities that aren’t represented by the mainstream media. This is important to us and, we hope, important to you, our listeners. We manage to do it for next to nothing, which is why every bit helps: your donation, whatever the size, goes a long way toward keeping Community Radio on the airwaves in the Shuswap.
· With every donation of $20 or more you will receive a membership with CKVS – The Voice of the Shuswap, we will put you on our mailing list so you can keep up to date weekly with what is happening at the station, a schedule of our great programming and the latest news and events.
· Sponsor an hour of Community Radio. For just $100 Dollars you can have an hour of the songs of your choice. You select the playlist and we will mention your name at the beginning and end of the show (unless, of course you would prefer to remain anonymous). *we will do our best to play all the songs you choose if they are in our library.
