Lifting up the Lee Family

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oJNj5m1kn9I Those of you who know Perry Lee probably have a lot of stories to share, a lot of specific memories complemented by laughs. Aside from his humor and genuine focus on relationships, another aspect that defines Perry is his family, his children. Perry’s daughter, Kassidy, was born July 9, 1996. Upon her arrival, doctors and medical experts determined a unique situation with Kassidy’s heart and, more specifically, with the aortic arch that supplies blood to the rest of her body. It was quickly discovered that her aortic arch was not complete and required a conduit to bridge the gap, which was successfully completed when she was three days old. Four months later, she went through another surgery to place patches on her heart, sealing several leaks.

As Kassidy grew, a new conduit was needed to fit her growing body; when she was 11, doctors replaced the conduit hoping this would be her last surgery. Thirteen years later, at a routine checkup, doctors became concerned about the pressure being placed on the high point of the arch, which started to create an aneurysm.

On Wednesday, October 7, 2020, at Fairview Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis, MN, Kassidy endured another surgery to extend the conduit. This initial surgery was a success, but unexpected complications required a second surgery. While the surgeon’s mission was accomplished through these surgeries, yet another obstacle arose: Kassidy’s left lung filled with fluid, resulting in minimal lung function. At this time, the Lee family, along with a team of doctors, continue to monitor the situation and are putting together a game plan to move forward.

As these circumstances accumulate, the financial burden continues to grow -- hotel stays, meals, travel, Kassidy’s loss of income, along with medical bills.

As many of you know, Perry Lee is the face and spirit of Century High School. As a teacher, colleague, and friend, he has provided so much to so many over the years. As a sentiment of our love and appreciation, the CHS community is seeking additional support for the Lee family to ease the strain of their financial burden during this difficult time.
