At 11 years old CJ is already a second degree black belt in Taekwondo. He’s the 2015 California State Champion having competed against the top ten athletes in California in his division, earning a spot at the US National Championships in Austin, TX this July.
Competing in Orlando, FL against the very best athletes from around the world at the 2015 US Open he earned a Bronze Medal. He was in Portland,OR at the 2014 Pan Am Open. 42 countries competed in all divisions and he took home a Silver Medal, beating the US National Champion and competing against the Canadian National Champion in the finals.
CJ’s dream is to represent his country as an Olympic Athlete. He trains hard for 3 1/2 hours a day 6 days per week at Action Martial Arts in Corona, CA. CJ has several Masters/Instructors that work with him. When he is not training at the studio, he spends a few hours a week in his garage/studio which his parents had remodeled for the sole purpose of training with his Chief Master/Coach practicing techniques and drills.
Competing at a world class level is very expensive. Expenses (travel, room & board) range between $1,500 to $4,000 per event including his coach(Mandatory).
CJ competes approximately 22 times per year, about 70% of those are local or regional tournaments where the costs are a fraction of the larger tournaments.
