My name is Darla Hutchins, and I am the office manager at Lasalle Dental. I have had the great privilege of not only working with, but becoming very close to, Nicole D’Alimonte, her husband Jeremy, their beautiful daughter Abby, and their son Elijah. Nicole is one of our hygienists, but more than that, she is a dear friend and an extraordinary mother.

In May of 2022, Abby was diagnosed at just 8 years old with an inoperable brain tumor, a Diffuse Midline Glioma with abnormal metastasis. At that time, doctors said her life expectancy could be up to 18 months. Abby, with her strength, courage, and beautiful spirit, beat those odds and gave her family precious time they were never promised.

Last week, Abby wasn’t feeling well and was taken to London Children’s Hospital for further testing. Nicole and Jeremy were told Abby would be booked for a CT scan, and doctors explained that if Abby began sleeping more than usual or started vomiting, they were to bring her back immediately.

On Sunday, December 14, when Abby’s condition worsened, Nicole and Jeremy rushed her back to the hospital. Testing began right away, and by Monday afternoon, they were given the most life-changing and devastating news any parent could ever receive: Abby’s body was now full of cancer. There were no more treatments available. All that could be done was to keep her comfortable. Doctors told them she may have a month left to live.

Our hearts are completely broken for this family.

During this unimaginable time, Nicole and Jeremy’s sole focus is being by Abby’s side—loving her, comforting her, and surrounding her with peace as she begins her transition into heaven. No parent should have to endure this pain, and no family should have to carry the burden of financial stress while saying goodbye to their child.
