During Lent 2023, Fr. Aodhan and Mr. Smyth launched a Lenten fundraising campaign in Cistercian College 'One less thing for Lent 2023'.
Initially they set out to raise €300 (enough to send a child to school for one year)
The School chosen was Colomo primary school in Uganda which is ran by a Nun Sr Mona Maher formally from the neighbourhood of MSJ and with ongoing strong links.
The campaign had three key elements/objectives:
● Give up one thing each week during Lent.
●Donate its value to the fund.
●By consuming ' one less thing' we help sustain our planet.
The whole event snowballed and we ended up raising €4400; all of which went directly to Colomo School. As a result two girls will each receive a full seven years primary education; boarding clothing and food. These two girls were Martha Asingwire whose parents are both blind or partially sighted and Victoria Komuntale who is 6 years old and comes from a situation of real poverty where the Mother takes care of the family alone.
Without this funding these two girls would not be in School at all.
So, because of CCR boys and wider CCR community two lives have been changed radically and positively forever. Surely to give to someone we may never know is one of the great acts of Christianity.
During lent this year at Cistercian College we will once again be working together to raise money for children in Uganda. With your help and dedication throughout lent, all money raised will go towards educating children in Uganda who need our help.
Please donate here throughout Lent and help us to raise some much needed funds.
