Hi, my name is Taylor Johnson. I am a close friend to Robin Dietschler. I have decided to make this go fund me for her and her horse Circular Street, aka Cici. Back in December of 2021, Cici’s health started to suddenly decline, so Robin had the vet come out for a health exam. The veterinarians found a fractured tooth with exposed roots that had become severely infected. After two vet appointments and multiple x-rays, Robin was referred to Cornell by the local veterinarians to have the tooth extracted.
We knew going into this surgery it was going to be a complex extraction (they had to cut through her cheek, break the tooth in half and surgically remove it). Despite the surgery being complex, we were reassured it was a routine procedure for Cornell. Robin was given an estimate between $3,000-$5,000 for her surgery and stay at the University Hospital. She stayed at Cornell for 4 days before being discharged and sent home. Two days after being home, her mouth became infected, and an abscess blew out of her cheek. She was immediately rushed back to Cornell and spent a week in the hospital.
Since her initial procedure, Cici has been back to Cornell 3 times. When she is not at Cornell, we are administering care for her wound 2-3 times daily: administering medication, flushing the wound site, keeping her face wrapped and following the veterinarian’s instructions. Despite our best efforts and a team of people rallying to keep Cici healthy, Robin has called the emergency vet out at least once a week for the past two months. The infection has spread to her bone which necessitated a small surgery to remove the dead portion. Unfortunately, the infection is back again and Cici will be going back to Cornell for a 4th visit on Saturday 3/25/2022.
The initial $5,000 bill has now turned into more than $15,000. This figure does not include transporting costs to get Cici to and from Cornell, the medications, medical supplies, or any of the volunteer labor to tend her wound. Not only that but we unfortunately do not see an end in sight. The bills keep coming and funds are running low. This go fund me is our last resort.
Cici had a very successful run at Finger Lakes racetrack, earning her the 2013 best claimer Filly/Mare of the year award. Robin and her mother were huge fans of CiCi. When her racing career was over, the mare found herself needing a new home. That is when Robin took her in. Robin named her Cici in honor of her mother who passed away from breast cancer shortly thereafter. Robin is a contributor to the local animal community. She is a volunteer for The Colony Caregivers, The Wayne County Horse Rescue, and the Thoroughbred Adoption Barn.
Cici has touched the lives of so many people. To a horse that gave so much to fans and the sport of racing, she is now a beautiful riding companion for her most generous and selfless owner. We ask for any donation to contribute towards her treatment costs.
Most sincerely and gratefully,
Taylor Johnson
