Field trips and student clubs, guest speakers and electives..... opportunities for "Social-Emotional Learning" were a formative part of school for me growing up in the '90s.
In School Year 2021-22, from my vantage point as a middle school social worker, there is a paucity of these opportunities for Extracurricular learning.
Help me bridge the social-emotional learning gap for our students: I'm fundraising to bring "Beat the Odds," an evidence-based, trauma-informed group drumming program, to Lincoln Middle School.
Based out of UCLA Arts & Healing, “Beat the Odds” integrates activities from group drumming and group therapy to build core strengths such as focusing and listening, team-building, leadership, expressing feelings, managing anger/stress, empathy, and gratitude.
As students mature, so should school-based programs that uncover their potential and navigate taking risks.
We may no longer have Woodshop, but imagine the next-level Festival Drumming that 50 un-contain-able angels are capable of. It's never been done. It's what we all need. Let's fund this!
