cineSOURCE magazine Ukraine Article & Site Rebuild
Doniphan Blair, cineSOURCE writer, editor and publisher, with four military law students, Kyiv, Ukraine, 9/16/22.
Doniphan Blair with cineSOURCE magazine issues and website, Oakland, 2013.
This fundraiser will cover cineSOURCE's latest Ukraine article (travel expenses only, $4,050) and its website rebuild ($5,000), for $9,050 total.
My recent article, "Meet the Kids of the Maidan: My Journey into Ukraine's Democratic Revolution", is the most ambitious in cineSOURCE's 14 years of publishing long-form articles on filmmakers, Oakland, conspiracism, civilization and more. It reveals a lot that is little reported elsewhere, notably about Ukrainian Nazis, Jews, rightwing fighters, hippies and art but also what happened in 2014 and what the Ukrainian kids are thinking—hence the title (https://cinesourcemagazine.com/index.php?/site/comments/meetings_the_kids_of_maidan_my_journey_into_ukraines_democratic_revolution1).
"Meet the Kids of the Maidan" and cineSOURCE's other breaking news, as well as its archive of over 1300 articles about Bay Area media, politics and related subjects dating back to 2008, are important. That is why I decided to rebuild cineSOURCE's website (cine-source.com), which has long been outdated and dysfunctional. Although it was top drawer when cineSOURCE started in 2008—the same one used by Wired Magazine—we bought updates starting in 2012 but were unable to install them.
This rebuild, by my longterm developer Juan Hererra, will provide for comments, videos, social media links, ads and more, which will make cineSOURCE both fun and functional for years.
Since I plan to return to Ukraine this summer and to continue cineSOURCE's publishing on Bay Area filmmakers, artists, festivals and companies, this fundraiser is an important cultural investment and continuation of the cineSOURCE project.
Ukraine Article Expenses (Aug 10-Oct 11) $4050: Airfare $1800, Train/Transport: 300, Lodging: $800, Food: $950, Misc: $200
cineSOURCE Rebuild $5,000: Developer Juan Hererra $4,500, Design and Graphics A Media $500
