Hello everyone! My name is Cindy, and I'm a 39 year old contracting specialist who lives in Winchester, VA. Thanks for coming to my page.
My story is long but I'll keep it as short as I can. Almost 9 years ago, I was an active, native Texan who enjoyed taking walks and hikes in Colorado while diving into youth sports and landscape photography while working in Lakewood, CO. I had never dealt with chronic pain ever in my life. The only struggle prior to that - for almost 14 years now - has been a severe anxiety disorder after I lost my sweet 3 year old daughter, Ehlana, in 2007 to Congenital Muscular Dystrophy.
In November 2012, my life changed forever from a health stand-point. I was rear-ended in a severe motor vehicle accident that left me with permanent injuries and disabilities to include 24/7/365 chronic migraines with extreme light and scent sensitivities which heightened my anxiety disorder. It's been rough BUT….
God led me to a solution that I've been praying over for 5+ years to help assist with everyday living - a service dog! Kaiser K9, who will be training my dog, has welcomed me with open arms and will be training my dog in scent detection (medical tasks) and anxiety.
My ADA* Medical Alert Service Dog will be life-changing for me, but it will be no easy feat! This dog will receive extensive training in scent work detection and learn calming techniques to assist with my anxiety as well as socialization and advance obedience - all over the course of 18 months. To make this a reality, I am fundraising for my service dog. I need your help!! The cost from start to finish will be approximately $13,000. I haven't been this excited about something like this in a long time - to FINALLY have some assistance and RELIEF, but I will be required to make $700 a month payment towards the dog for the next 18 months to cover the dog's training and expenses!!!
A Service Dog would impact me greatly as I would be alerted up to 48 hours prior to a migraine flare-up and/or I would be alerted to certain scents in the workplace such as colognes, perfumes, scented lotions and sprays, cigarettes, etc. where the dog would assist me in finding and bringing me flare-up medication, moving me away from the affected area or person. These early detections would better prepare me for a flare-up; you have NO idea how impactful this will be for me!!!! It would keep me employed full time, while taking less time off for migraine flare-up days that can last anywhere from 1-5 days at a time and cause me to burn through my accrued annual and sick leave.
Will you help make this a reality?
