The early morning of December 2, 2019 my mom, Cindy Caito, and I were involved in a major car accident. We were hit by a driver who suddenly turned left right in front of us going 45 miles an hour. The fire department had to use the jaws of life to cut off the doors and roll the dashboard which my mom was pinned under. She suffered two broken hips, broken hand, concussion and a fractured foot. I had a concussion, injury to my back/neck area, contusions to my chest and knees. They did surgery right away on mom, both hips and placed pins in hand.
We spent two weeks in the hospital then  transitioned in to an acute rehabilitation facility for intense occupational and physical therapy. There the schedule alone is very rigorous, set times for meals, classes 4 to 5 times a day and you can't miss a minute. Not only is it physically exhausting and painful, it takes an emotional tole on you.
But through it all she was stead fast and persevered. I couldn't be more proud of her and the strength she has shown. I'm happy to say as of Friday January 17, 2020 she came home! From home she will continue physical therapy to maintain the strenghing she received in rehab until cleared by her surgeon. She will then receive PT and OT at home to regain strength that she lost from sugeries and subsequently the car accident.

We are truly blessed; blessed to have survive the accident, blessed to have each other and blessed to have the continuing support of our family and friends. You can never truly prepare yourself for life changing moments and the repercussions there after.

That being said there are many out of pocket expenses that go along with having two major hip surgeries, pins in her broken left hand and broken toes. The medical equipment needed to help regain strength to perform daily routines of bathing, eating and using the restroom is going to have to be rented monthly. On top of that all the new prescriptions, even with insurance, are very expensive. All this plus our regular monthly expenses have put us in a very tough spot.

The only running vehicle we had was the Jeep that we were sharing at the time was totaled in the accident. Insurance provided a rental car in the beginning but that didn't last long at all. We were told a weekly rental at roughly $135. a week was our only other option. We have had family and friends help with rides, dropping off medicane and so forth but they have families and responcibilities of their own that we hate to pull them from. There are doctors appointments with a specialist and primary that she will need a ride to.
I found out almost a year ago now that I was sick with a rare form of colitis so I was unable to work up until the point of finding out what was wrong and the correct treatment in order to start back to work and everyday activities. Unfortunately I have gone through my savings and currently looking for work again. Caring for mom is number one priority and because she is non weightbaring until further notice I'm her legs ☺.

We would like to thank our family and friends from the bottom of our hearts for the continued love, support and prayers!! Without them who knows where we would be today!
