Cindy and John Booker are wonderful Christian members of our community who have been there for us countless times and in immeasurable ways. Cindy is a retired Registered Nurse, having devoted many years to helping women of East Texas with their healthcare needs, a loving and nurturing lady to thousands of friends and patients. John is a retired teacher and has been a phenomenal educator of our young children.
Cindy is a breast cancer survivor, and her story of survival, from tragedy to triumph, is a beacon of hope to so many. Sadly, after battling breast cancer and winning that fight, Cindy was recently diagnosed with another rare and very aggressive form of cancer---anaplastic thyroid cancer. The chance for a cure is very unlikely; the diagnosis is devastating to all that know and love Cindy.
She is receiving treatment at MD Anderson in Houston, TX and will have a series of intense chemotherapy and radiation sessions in hopes of shrinking the tumor and controlling further spread of the cancer. In addition to the high cost of medical care, the travel back and forth from Tyler to Houston for extended stays in Houston is very costly to them. This is putting extra stress and strain on the family during a difficult and terrifying time.
