Sadly a friend and supporter to many in the community, Cindy Smith, has been put in a position of needing assistance after a terrible disease diagnosis. • In January of this year, Cindy started to exhibit symptoms that unfortunately were very well known to her. Cindy has watched 9 family members pass from the horrible disease of ALS (Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis also known as Lou Gehrig’s). ALS is a neuron disease that targets nerve cells of the spine and brain. There is no cure, it is fatal. Although ALS is rare, even more rare is the family genetics, combined with the rapid disease progression. Cindy’s other family members progression from onset of symptoms, to death was just 6 months. Cindy is the sweetest, most loving friend and a wonderful wife and mother. • Cindy has bravely and quietly been fighting this disease since January.
