In April of this year Jeff and Cindy Hunt’s lives were changed drastically. Cindy took her husband Jeff to the emergency room thinking he was experiencing back pain only. When they arrived, they immediately had to care-flight him to another hospital. After about 8 hours of excruciating pain, Jeff was diagnosed with an aortic dissection. This is the condition that killed actor, John Ritter and countless others, but Jeff beat the odds. He eventually had to have bypass surgery that the doctors said was so complex, it was as if Jeff had been hit by 2 semi-trucks! In order to care for Jeff, Cindy took most of her paid leave from her job from that day in April through mid-May. In addition, Cindy had to withdraw funds from their conservative retirement account to pay the medical deductible.
Jeff and Cindy are a beautiful couple that have been married for over 43 years. Their relationship has only grown stronger through the years. They are not impulsive shoppers or frivolous spenders but live very frugal and happy lives. Jeff is no longer able to work due to his condition, and they were just starting to manage everything again, when out of nowhere on Sunday, October 20th, Cindy was admitted to the hospital after going to the emergency room with a kidney stone.
While being treated for the kidney stone with antibiotics and a stent, Cindy had a heart attack and 2 stents were put in her heart arteries. After leaving ICU and going home a week later, Cindy woke up and had trouble breathing and then again found herself in the emergency room. This time she was diagnosed with pneumonia in one lung. Again, she was admitted to the hospital. They gave her antibiotics, breathing treatments and Lasik to get rid of fluid.
Both Jeff and Cindy are currently out of the hospital, but with the stress of medical and other bills, and now, no work leave available for Cindy, it’s difficult to rest and heal properly. The funds that are raised will help them replace the funds that were withdrawn from their retirement account, as well as ease other financial burden resulting from their life-altering series of events. Thank you in advance for your generosity and compassion for this humble couple. They have worked for all that they have, and would never expect to be shown such an act of kindness.
