WHO ARE WE?
We are the Kazakhstan English Language Theater (KELT) based at KIMEP University in Almaty, Kazakhstan. Founded in 2001, we were the first and continue to be the most active community English Language theater in the country (Kazakhstan is the 9th largest country in the world, formerly a part of the USSR).
We are a non-profit theater that produces quality mainstage productions, tours around Central Asia and conducts weekly theater clubs. We also develop young, fledgling English-language theater groups around Kazakhstan and work with underprivileged children in the region.
WHY ARE WE DOING THIS?
Our productions have impacted hundreds of locals in the community around Almaty, Kazakhstan.
We invest our time and energy into driven and committed individuals who are usually full-time students or employees and are eager for the chance to develop their artistic abilities.
As a result of the work invested into our actors, audiences are consistently impressed with the high level of talent displayed by amateur actors. Thus, KELT has found its niche in providing live English language entertainment that the Almaty community cannot see anywhere else in Kazakhstan.
We have a reputation for doing high-caliber English language theater in a family-like atmosphere. When people participate in a production, either as an actor, audience or crew member, they sense they have been a part of something special - something unique. And they continue to return to KELT.
WHY ARE WE USING GOFUNDME?
We love being at KIMEP University and we are very thankful they provide us with rehearsal space. We are also thankful for the many talented actors we have found there. Unfortuntely, we get NO funding from the university (even after we made 2 presentations about the size of our project). So we must go outside to look for help. Through this campaign we also want the university to see that others value the work we do and that this project IS worthy of support.
In the past, we have always been able to fund our shows with the ticket money saved from the previous production. However, Cinderella is our largest-scale production to date. Getting the rights to the play, as well as the musical tracks cost over $3000 which (as we expected) depleted the money we saved from our last production.
We knew that we would need to find financing from multiple sources, including a gofundme campaign.
**As of now, we are pursuing sponsorship from several companies here in Kazakhstan, but so far, nothing has panned out. **

- 38 actors in the cast
- Over 30 crew members
- Rehearsing 4-6 nights per week since last October
- 8 different nationalities involved
- 6 performances (May 5-9, 2017)
- 3000+ audience members expected
WHERE WILL YOUR DONATIONS GO?
- Rental space for the performance
- Costumes (60+ costumes)
- Set Construction
- Light Rental
- Head mic rentals (9 are needed for lead's)
- Fog Machine rentals
- Publicity materials
- Over 3000 programs
- Royalty fees
**We are on a serious time crunch and need funding to purchase materials to begin set building by the end of February. **
