40th Fundraiser for LB/SNAAP
Donation protected

SNAAP website
I turn 40 on 16th August and was pondering what I'd do to celebrate. It occured to me that I'm bloody lucky to have this dilemma so instead of going out drinking I've decided to go out running the day after and will be running the Porchlight 10k at Mount Ephraim to raise funds for the Justice for LB campaign and also for SNAAP. So I'm asking you to 'buy me a drink', basically donate however much a birthday drink may have cost and I'll be dividing this between the two causes.
Justice for LB:
At 09:15 am on Thursday 4th July 2013 18 year old Connor Sparrowhawk, (Laughing Boy or LB as his family called him), whilst in the care of Southern Health, was found dead in a bath at Slade House, Headington, Oxford.Connor, who had learning disabilities, drowned in the bath and it is thought that he had an epilectic seizure prior to drowning. An external investigation said that Connor’s death was preventable. Connor will never celebrate again celebrate a birthday so I'd like to use my birthday to help arise funds towards the costs of legal representation at the inquest. I am constantly in awe of his mother's determination and bravery in the face of the authorities who should have cared for her son. You can read more about this here in Sara's blog
More locally we have SNAAP (Special Needs Advisory and Activities Project) who support families with children with both physical and learning disabilities and I was lucky enough to be their social work placement student. This organisation do an amazing job with and for the families they work with and, as Government cuts bite, families need SNAAP more and more but as a charity they rely on grants and fundraising to help them help others.
