Since November of 2020, John has been dealing with Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP) which is an autoimmune disease affecting his ability to walk, write, type, drive and many other activities of daily living. This has resulted in his having to resign from employment with the City of Dayton.
Once he was diagnosed in the hospital, he was then transferred to a rehab facility ;where he was going to work on building core strength as well as regain muscle control. While there he contracted Covid 19 which resulted in his being placed on a ventilator. He has suffered four (4) bouts of pneumonia . He has been hospitalized or in rehab since the end of January 2021,
We have been feverishly working to obtain Disability Compensation and Medicare/Medicaid in order to maintain quality of life and pay for expenses of his illness we have incurred during the past year. As John is not yet 62, he was denied disability compensation, but he was awarded Medicaid which we are grateful for and helps with his medical bills.
Our family still has rent, utilities, car payments, insurance, groceries, and other normal living expenses. I, Lesley, his wife, have been retired for several years and have a fixed income. This places us in a dire situation. While John has been hospitalized, I have had to move into an ADA compliant apartment to prepare for him coming home eventually , which includes wheelchair accessibility, hospital bed, and other features.
We are asking for your blessings and donations, so we can provide John with quality of life outside the hospital and rehabilitation.
We would be grateful to hear from other families experiencing CIDP and Covid for support and advice.
Thank you very much.
