Chuy's fight to live!

Donation protected
It started as a normal morning on Tuesday, July 25th. Chuy got up, got ready for work as normal and left the house. At 10 am Christi got her usual call from Chuy checking in as he always does. But he sounded a little winded. She asked how he was feeling, and he replied, "I'm having trouble breathing". It was a hot day and he brushed it off. She told him, if you still don't feel good, I can take you to the doctor after work. Around 1:30 he was still experiencing shortness of breath. He came home and they went to the emergency room. After waiting until 9 pm they admitted him with pneumonia.

Wednesday, they started running tests. They did a chest X-ray and noticed spots on his lungs. Blood work followed that came back with higher-than-normal levels. As the tests continued, they realized Chuy has a mass on his kidney. By the end of the week, he was given a diagnosis that changed their lives. Chuy had cancer! Shock, disbelief, & heartbreaking news for everyone.

The doctors believe the cancer started in his kidney and spread to his liver, bone, & lungs. The doctors spoke of removing the kidney quickly. But to date, that has not happened. They moved forward with a biopsy of the lung to determine the stage of cancer. As the shock set in, they knew they would have to make a shift in their lives.

Once Chuy was released from the hospital and got home, Chuy was feeling a lot better and insisted on going back to work. He intended to work as long as he can while he can. After a few days, they realized this was worse than they thought. Chuy struggled to get through the day. They prayed about it and decided it would be best for him to stay home and focus on rest and getting his immune system as strong as they can. And ready for the fight ahead.

They went to their first oncology appointment, and it was confirmed he has cancer. He has since had a brain scan, getting a bone scan this week, and repeating the lung biopsy.

Who plans for a cancer diagnosis? Chuy & Christi feel blessed and humbled to have such a wonderful support system. They are grateful to all their family, friends, and Chuys work who have been unbelievably supportive.

Since he is unable to return to work anytime soon, the GoFundMe has been set up to help financially until the day comes when he is free of this disease, and he can return to work!

Thank you in advance for all your help and prayers. Please know it is greatly appreciated. We will update as often as we can, so please check back.
