Churro's Road to Recovery

Hi friends,
Meet Churro! She's the sweetest, most loving Frenchie with the biggest personality. On January 22nd, Churro started dragging her left hind leg and was not acting her normal self. Upon arrival to the ER, her hind legs were no longer able to hold her up. The ER Vet examined her and told us that this was most likely due to IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) which is a spinal disorder that follows from a herniating disc within the vertebrae. The ER Vet explained that Churro would need to stay in the hospital overnight to monitor her as she could go into complete paralysis which would be a neurologic emergency. In the morning, we were called by the neurologist and he told us that Churro would need an MRI to evaluate the severity of the IVDD. The MRI was completed and it showed Churro had a ruptured intervertebral disc that was causing spinal cord compression and swelling. The MRI also showed an ample amount of blood in the spinal cord as well as several other degenerating discs in her spine. Churro needed hemilaminectomy. Churro was operated on within a few hours. After her surgery, the Neurologist called me and said there were several blood clots already formed in her spinal cord that he cleaned up as well as other degenerating discs he was able to repair. Churro is now recovering in the confinement of her crate for 3-4 weeks. We are giving her lots of love and she is now walking. It is a miracle she has functionality of her legs. We are thankful for the pet insurance we have however, a few days ago they did inform us they would only be covering 5,800$ of her surgical expenses. This only covers a little more than 1/3 of the overall cost so we are fundraising with the help of Churro's aunty Hena, for whatever help we can get. Please follow Churro's recovery journey on instagram @thefrenchchurro. We love you all so much. Thank you for your support in this time.
