Unless you've been living under a rock for the past five years, you would have failed to notice the dramatic changes that the world has undergone. Not only have we navigated a deadly global pandemic, but now the United Kingdom is amidst a knife crime and mental health pandemic.
Day after day, we're faced with headlines, articles, and videos about our young people losing their lives at an alarming rate because of knife violence, drug abuse and mental health issues. It feels as if society is failing us and our young people, and we, as a collective, need to take drastic steps to halt this devastating trajectory.
In March 2020, amid the global pandemic, a small group of individuals of Ghanaian heritage met virtually as part of a sabbath school plant of Swindon Seventh-Day Adventist Church. As the COVID-19 pandemic lingered, the congregation grew to over forty members.
Fast forward to 2024, we now have over a hundred members who regularly meet at a rented space in Swindon. Our congregation is not just about worshipping the good Lord; it's about steering and guiding our young people in the right direction. Being part of a faith-driven community, we aim to give our youth hope, strength, and optimism in life. Thus, if we teach the younger generation the marvellous guidance and direction of the good Lord today, we can play our small part in taking young people away from crime, drug misuse and mental health into a life enriched with prosperity, purpose, and wealth to have a positive impact in our communities tomorrow.
The power of solidarity was demonstrated in how the Ghanaian community came together to show resilience, spirit, and determination during an unprecedented crisis. We watched in awe as the numbers attending our Seventh-Day Adventist Church continued to grow. But whilst our community grew, our venue remained the same. It soon became apparent that we had outgrown our current rented venue, where we host our in-person worship services, Bible studies, and other faith-rich events. We feel restricted by our current renting situation and recognize the time is right to look for a more suitable venue to house our ever-growing congregation and life-changing events.
We aim to raise funds in the region of £2.5M to buy a permanent church building to host our life-changing programmes. We long for a place that we can call our own home, which would enable us to run unrestricted meetings, Bible studies, youth programmes, Sabbath School, Divine Worship Services, and much more.
By starting this GoFundMe campaign, we aim to appeal to our enormous communities to donate to our page in support of our vision. In the name of the Almighty God, we will gladly receive any small or large amount you can donate to our page.
Our community is ever-growing, and we encourage you to share our page, spread the word, and promote our crowdfunding ambitions by informing all your family, friends, churches, social media followers, and community members about our desire to buy a church building to serve our Maker and our community.
The Bible gives us this optimistic text that “with God all things are possible”. Hence, let us unite to raise the next generation of God-fearing and law-abiding citizens who value their lives, and in turn, value other people's lives. We need your support, and with your kind donation towards our vision, we can change our current renting situation and the lives of countless young people.
Join us in creating a lasting impact for the current and next generation. Donate today and help us secure a permanent home. Thank you for reading our campaign story and for your generous donation. God Bless richly you all. Amen
