Urgent Appeal to Support Christ Church Walmsley After Boiler Flood Cancels Services

Christ Church Walmsley, a much-loved village church in the centre of Egerton, is facing an urgent challenge after a leaking pipe flooded the boiler house leaving the building without heating. Due to freezing temperatures, all Sunday services had to be cancelled.

While services are back up and running for now, we still urgently need to raise funds to replace the boiler. The boiler, which has served the church for around 20 years, cannot be repaired because replacement parts are unavailable. A full replacement is desperately needed, and the cost is significant. Previous fundraising efforts have already been used for essential roof repairs, leaving parish funds critically low.

Our Church

Christ Church Walmsley is a cherished place of worship at the heart of the community, hosting regular services for all ages, including many children and families. Most local people will have attended weddings, baptisms, funerals, and school services at Christ Church - it is a cornerstone of village life and a historic building that the community treasures.

Churchwarden Kath Pearson said:

“We’re working tirelessly to protect this incredible building, but we urgently need help to fund essential repairs. As we count down to Christmas - our busiest time of year - we’re asking the community to come together and give whatever they can to keep Christ Church Walmsley open, warm, and welcoming for generations to come.”

“Christ Church Walmsley is a beautiful nineteenth-century church built from local stone and built upon the goodwill of the community. Parishioners are working hard to balance preserving this historic building with making it a warm, safe place to worship.

"We’ve faced major setbacks: a leaking roof, corroded pipes flooding the boiler house, and urgent plastering and redecoration. But we love our church and want it to remain a source of pride and joy for the whole community, pointing us to the peace and welcome of God.
