Chuong Thi Memorial & Education Fund

If you knew Chuong, you know about his larger than life smile, energy, love for family and friends, and above all his huge heart. Chuong overcame countless obstacles to become the loving father and friend he became.  Arriving in the USA at age 7 from Vietnam, not speaking a word of English, he personified hard work and the modern day American dream.  Chuong welcomed you with a warm embrace and a glowing smile.

We lost Chuong Thi on October 31, 2020.  The suddenness and timing of the event have left a huge void in our hearts and souls.

He leaves behind his beautiful wife Jaleen, their two amazing kids: Tristian (9), and Addilyn (2.5) , and their dog Winston. The hole he left will never be filled, and it is our hope that as a community we can support his family during this difficult time with our donations to this campaign.

So many people have asked how they can show love and support, or wondering what can be done to help. We've created this fundraiser to help care for Chuong's family . Even though he might not be here to take them fishing, skiing, to the beach, or do the daily small things that come with being a parent, we will be the hands to lift them up.

Chuong suffered a traumatic brain injury last week caused by a fall from a moving tram on a hotel resort property, while traveling on vacation in Mexico with his family.  He received emergency treatment in Cancun including a ventricular drain installed in his head to release pressure on his brain.

Through amazing efforts from friends and family he was able to return home to Denver via medical flight transportation.

Once Chuong arrived in Denver and at St Anthony's Hospital he immediately went into ICU and under the care of their neurosurgeons and staff.

He received a MRI which revealed a diffuse axonal injury(DAI) to the brain which occurs when the brain rapidly shifts (upon impact) inside the hard bone of the skull. This injury sheared the long connective fibers of the brain as the motion rapidly accelerates and stops inside the hard bone of the skull.  This damage to these tissues and brain left Chuong in a coma. Choung passed after several days of ICU care at St Anthony's Hospital in Denver while visited by family and friends.

As Chuong overcame obstacles and pushed himself to succeed, we want to ensure his children have that same opportunity to prepare for their future. These funds will assist the family in covering medical expenses, continuing care for the family through counseling and/or tutors. Any additional surplus amounts will placed into 529's for both children for their future education needs.   We hope to be able to provide some of the financial support for both kids as Chuong would have done for them.

He will be missed,  but we are so proud for the home and family he has built with Jaleen, their extended family and their network of friends.  We believe that together we have the power to help create  opportunities for the Thi Family!

We thank you for your contribution and support. We would also ask for privacy and space for the family during this trying time.

With love and gratitude,

Team Thi

Note: This campaign was set up by Scott Lauck with much assistance from family and friends. All funds raised by this campaign are gifts that will be directly donated to Jaleen Thi, who is listed as the beneficiary of this fundraiser.  Contributions will be used to meet needs that will arise as a result of this tragedy, including current medical and future therapy expenses. Contributions may also be used to assist with future educational needs in Tristian and Addi's lives.
