Chief Chuck Forbis' Recovery

On the morning of Saturday, April 18, Lewisburg Chief and TACP President Chuck Forbis was involved in a life altering car accident.  He was stopped at a red light when he was hit from behind by a car traveling at 45-50 miles per hour.  His car traveled across the intersection into a telephone/light pole. Due to the thick fog that morning, Life Flight was unable to reach him and he had to be transported by ambulance to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville. He sustained several serious injuries including a broken back, severely damaged spinal cord, and several fractured ribs. He underwent a six hour surgery that Saturday to put rods in his back. He was moved and spent nearly 5 weeks at Vanderbilt Stallworth Rehabilitation Hospital.

On May 26th, Chief Forbis was discharged from Stallworth Rehab Hospital and headed home to his new house in Lewisburg.  The house needs extensive modifications to make it accessible; but the immediate needs are currently being handled and additional modifications will be made over time.  Though Chief Forbis’ life will never be the same and he will have a long road ahead of him as he adapts to functioning from a wheelchair, he is blessed to be alive and determined to live the best life he can!  Those of us who know “the determined Chuck Forbis” know that if anyone can do it, it is him!

Chuck is extremely grateful to those that have called, emailed, sent cards and letters, visited him, sent flowers and treats, worked on his yard and house, brought him his favorite foods, diet coke and smoothies AND prayed for him.  Many of us have truly witnessed the value of friendship, loyalty and dedication through Chuck’s unfortunate accident.  We have heard it said, “We can’t change yesterday; but we can shape tomorrow.”  Chief Forbis completely and wholeheartedly embodies that quote/statement.

Many have expressed their desire to help Chuck and have asked what he needs.  Chief Forbis is in need of following items not covered by insurance:  Motorized Wheelchair to aid him in getting around absolutely anywhere, medical equipment, making his home wheelchair and handicap accessible, and an accessible vehicle to name some of the key items.

In an effort to pull resources to provide Chief Forbis with the essential tools he needs to live as independently as possible and get back to work full-time as the Lewisburg Police Chief, a GO FUND ME account has been set up to accept online donations and the Tennessee Association of Chiefs of Police (TACP) has set up an account to accept checks.
