Chuck York's Fight to Save his Life
After many years of volunteering and giving his heart and soul on the soccer field to the kids in Huntington Beach, as well as the Big Brother Organization, Chuck York now needs our help. On September 13, 2019, Chuck was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cholangiocarcinoma, a very rare bile duct cancer and was given 1-2 months to live and put on Hospice. Once he signed the hospice papers, it became real, and he decided to fight for his life and turned down hospice!
Because of Chuck's severe and weak condition they would not do any Chemo or Radiation treatment on him because his body would not survive it. He lost 50 pounds, was skin and bones. A friend of mine referred us to Dr. Ferre, an amazing Alternative Cancer Doctor who practices Eastern Medicine, and we truly believe she saved his life!
Chuck goes to Hoag Hospital weekly to get his stomach drained, from the ascites built up from the liver. He goes in every 3 months to get his stents exchanged in the liver, so the fluid doesn't back up any further. They have found 2 more large masses in his liver, luckily they have not spread into the body.
On October 7, 2020 we found out that Chuck was approved for a Liver Transplant (The bile duct is attached to the liver, so it will be removed with the liver transplant)
Chuck needs both financial support for the extremely high costs associated with the transplant (for both he and the living donor) and in helping him find a living donor. This is the ONLY way to save his life!! Unfortunately, The Insurance does not cover the entire cost for him or the living donor, so we are asking for your help.
Chuck was given 1-2 months to live, and here we are 14 months later… The Dr.s say he's a walking Miracle, but doesn't have much more time! Chuck is scared. He does not leave the house because of the Coronavirus, Unless its for Dr. Appointments. He has a compromised immune system. Chuck has good days and bad days, happy days and sad days. Days he doesn't get out of bed. Days he doesn't eat or sleep. Days he has no energy. This has become his new life. But, with the news of the transplant, he is now hopeful…
On November 28, 2020 we got a call from the transplant surgeon at Cedars-Sinai that we have been seeing for a year now, he reviewed Chuck's latest scans with us and said he has 6-12 months to live in his current state. HE NEEDS A LIVER TRANSPLANT ASAP!
Chuck has been seeing Dr's at Cedars-Sinai, UCLA and USC and with Chuck's latest news and life expectancy we got a second opinion, which was confirmed and now have made changes to his insurance and decided to go with USC KECK. They are the only Transplant Program that will (hopefully) be able to save his life with a living donor and within 6-12 months timeframe.
Chuck is only 48 years old, we have kids! Chuck’s Birthday is on December 23rd and all he wishes for is to make it another year. One of his dreams is to drive cross country to Mount Rushmore and see it in person. Chuck still has SO much to live for!
Please help in anyway you can in saving his life.
**If you are blood type A or O (doesn't matter if you are + or -) and interested in becoming a possible donor, we will be sharing the link for you soon**
Thank you so much, we could not get through this difficult time without each and every one of you! Thank you for your donations, love, friendship and prayers.
Love,
Chuck & Reanne York
