After years of being the primary caregiver to his wife Vicky, our sweet Dad, Chuck Shackelton, unexpectedly declined in health and passed away on Thursday April 11, 2019.
He was diagnosed with congestive heart failure in November 2015, however for the next few years he continued to live actively, not only physically, but in service to others. In January 2019 his health suddenly declined. On February 11, 2019 he was admitted to the hospital. He was diagnosed with multiple bilateral pulmonary embolisms and stage 3 liver and kidney failure. He was not expected to make it through the night. Miraculously, he did! He spent the next two weeks in the ICU. Further testing showed multiple blood clots throughout his body and an irreparably damaged mitral valve (in his heart). With this knowledge he was sent home under hospice care. For the next 6 weeks he continued to bless the lives of all those who came to see him, encouraging them to keep the faith and keep moving forward. All the while expressing his love and gratitude for God.
Chuck saw the good in others, always being concerned and aware of everyone around him. He extended a hand with a “how are you” and an infectious smile to everyone. He filled his days in service to others including; giving rides, lending an ear, coordinating service, and offering advice. His greatest gift was the ability to love a person for who they are.
He spent the last several years loving and tenderly taking care of his wife Vicky in her struggle with debilitating rheumatoid arthritis. His example of such loving care has reached far into the depths of the hearts of his children and grandchildren as well as everyone who knew him. This devoted service will live on as part of his legacy. Because of Vicky’s chronic illness and continuous medical expenses they were unable to save for his unexpected medical expenses and sudden death.
We express our deep gratitude for any donations that you are able to give to help relieve the financial burden from medical and funeral expenses.
