Chuck Garrett’s continued battle with cancer
Donation protected
I’ve had a lot of people approach me about how they can help out as I start my next phase and second year of treatment. The honest answer is: funding is the most critical need. Cobra Insurance is over $1k a month before copays and prescriptions, plus transportation, lodging and meals cost over $2,500 a month traveling back and forth to Houston to MD Anderson.
A little history:
The first two trials were ineffective at killing the cancer and it actually grew slightly over the last 12 months. In addition, I’ve been dealing with a very dangerous infection of a lymph node in my chin that won’t heal. It’s not MRSA , but it is very dangerous. I’m on strong antibiotics indefinitely. This infection brought with it fatigue and digestive issues causing me to lose weight (190 lbs, 162 lbs this morning)
The treatment has left me unable to speak clearly, hopefully I will regain some speech. I am also unable to eat normally getting 100% of my nutrition through a stomach tube. Although I’m hopeful that will return sometime in the future as well but it has been a tremendous challenge communicating and maintaining my weight.
Update: 2/27/23
Went to doctors for updates, scans, and infusions. Bloodwork looked great, better than ever actually so we were expecting great news.
The tumor actually grew in size again. Tumor and infection working together. Doctors say they are happy with the way I look and my energy level. Due to the growth of the tumor we are switching drugs again that require weekly visits to Houston/MD Anderson. After I get financial clearance we will start next Friday.
I have had many substantial donations from great friends who have asked to remain Anonymous- to them and to those who donate we are grateful.
Send me a Facebook DM if you prefer a different method - Zelle, Venmo, PayPal, Cash App, etc.
Thank you,
Chuck
