Merrick Pet Care is  deeply saddened by the passing of our Merrick family – Eliazar “Chuck” Garcia.  Chuck passed away Tuesday 12/15/20 due to complications resulting from COVID-19. Chuck has been a part of the Merrick team since 2008. When he joined our team 12 years ago, he started as a Production Supervisor in our Dry Plant and was quickly promoted to Team Leader. Most recently, he was a well-respected Team Leader in our West Cannery.

First and foremost, Chuck truly understood the importance of family – both at home, and at Merrick. He cared deeply for his wife and children and always put them first. His commitment to his family was clear to everyone who knew him – you could often find him enjoying his lunch hour with his wife and kids and you could also see him hesitate when asked to take off his wedding band for his shift. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Chuck also cared deeply for his Merrick family. He believed it was his responsibility to protect, lead and teach his team each and every day. As a Team Leader in the Dry Plant, Chuck played a critical role in many of the projects focused on improving our Operations and reinforcing our Safety mindset. From there, he was willing to bring his talents to the West Cannery where he remained a constant voice for Safety. Chuck jokingly said that he was the “Michael Jordan of Merrick” or “GOAT” (Greatest of All Time) and this couldn’t be truer. He was known for his strong worth ethic and was the GOAT when it comes to caring for a team and keeping them safe.

Chuck’s genuine ability to connect, and be a friend to everyone, was admirable. He was a great man who had a strong sense of pride in everything he did. He had a huge impact on many of our lives. Chuck had a great sense of humor and a contagious spirit. He was quick to speak up if something didn’t seem right and was the first to recognize someone when they did a good job. We all are deeply saddened by this news of our sudden loss of a beloved family member and will miss having Chuck in our daily lives.

This fund is being created to support his wife and children during this difficult time.  All donations will go directly to the family.
